Sweet potatoes have a creamy texture and a sweet-spicy flavor that makes them ideal for savory dishes. There are two types, one with bright orange flesh and the other with pale cream flesh. I prefer to use the orange ones because of their beautiful color.
Sweet potatoes are native to the tropical Americas and are sometimes referred to as yams. Despite its name, it is not closely related to the common potato. Sweet potatoes can be baked, roasted or mashed, but can also be added to a risotto, pasta or curry. Unlike potatoes, you can also eat the leaves, which are very nutritious.
