The 1st Spice Girl Farmers Market took place last Saturday. And it was bustling!
Local farmers, fishermen, winemakers, beer brewers and other entrepreneurs arrived early in the morning with fresh farm products, freshly caught fish and prepared organic foods, juices & wines. They hardly had time to stock up their food stalls, before visitors started arriving and took their chance to load up their bags with lots of fresh produce.
Of course this was a market Spice Girl-style. So after the shopping was done, visitors could relax in our Farmers Café and enjoy a good cappuccino, homemade pumpkin cupcakes or a delicious market-lunch with a nice glass of wine. The Jerk Chicken Skewers, Caribbean Burgers with Pickled Okra & Chipotle Mayo and Crispy Green Fries were among everyone’s favorites.
With farmers markets being a common phenomenon in places like the United States and Europe, it was about time to introduce the concept here on Curacao. But the success of the first market was unexpected and I am very happy with all the enthusiastic response. This may have been the first farmers market, but certainly not the last!
A big thank you to all participants: Hofi Cas Cora, the Royal Lionfish Hunters, Makambi, Wijnhandel Servir Frais, Max and Bee Juicery, Nos Kunuku, The Spotted Banana, Curacao Winery, Plantage Mandinga, Brion Bier and the Natural & Organic Health Food Store. Hope to welcome you again next time!
